Meet Dr. Enzenbacher
For over 30 years I have provided women with medical care, both as an Obstetrician and Gynecologist. I am currently a North American Menopause Society Certified Menopause Practitioner and member of The American College of OB/GYN, The International Society for the Study of Female Sexual Health, and the International Society for the Study of Vulvovaginal Disease.
From an early age I was drawn to science. My parents bought me biology, geology, and chemistry sets in order to foster my innate curiosity. I excelled in math and science and later was drawn to psychology. In high school I became a peer counselor, as even then I enjoyed helping others and listening to personal stories.
I was profoundly influenced by the feminist movement of the 1970’s, which shaped my decision to earn my Bachelor of Science in Biology, with a minor in Sociology and Women’s Studies. I graduated with honors from the University of California, Santa Cruz with the certainty that I wanted to combine my love of biology with my interest in sociology, women’s studies and psychology. Medicine was the perfect marriage of these four subjects and lay the foundation of my philosophy.
At Rush Medical College in Chicago, my clerkship in Obstetrics and Gynecology fascinated me the most. It allowed me to combine my feminist principles with my surgical skills. During this time, I went on a medical tour of China and saw my first live birth! In this exciting moment I realized that obstetrics and gynecology was the field of medicine for me.
During my fourth year as an OB/GYN resident I went to Nairobi, Kenya to learn gynecological and birthing techniques not typically taught in the US. I witnessed first-hand how women suffer from complications of childbirth, STD’s, pelvic infection, and botched gynecologic surgeries due to the lack of decent health care services and resources. Because of this experience I have throughout my career been a champion for women’s health care rights through political action, educational presentations and publications.
After my residency, I practiced for fifteen years as an OB/GYN at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital in Manhattan. I worked with a wonderful group of likeminded female doctors. I attended hundreds of births, performed a broad range of gynecologic surgeries and provided gynecologic services to women from adolescence through menopause.
In order to serve women in a more personal setting I decided to start a solo medical practice in Rockland County. For over seventeen years I provided medical care for women in all stages of life. During this time, I became more passionate about caring for women in midlife and beyond, which became my inspiration for founding Zen Medical Care in Nyack, NY. My new practice is based on the belief that women deserve more than what they are experiencing within our current medical health care system.
My goal is to create a safe space where a woman can be heard, educated, supported, empowered and set up with a personalized treatment plan. This consists of expert consultation for perimenopause, menopause, sexual function issues, vulvovaginal pain, thyroid dysfunction, weight loss and medical cannabis.
At Zen Medical Care, each patient is cared for and listened to as an individual with unique needs.
